The third of the Star Wars prequels promises to be the darkest yet, as it chronicles Anakin's fall to the Dark Side. We've not yet seen how Hayden Christensen grapples with the complexities of this metamorphosis, but his 50x15-pixel sprite representation is incredibly emotive. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith lets you play from the perspectives of your favorite Jedi as they hack through the Clone Army that Emperor Palpatine has sicced on them. The game looks great and it has a pretty compelling plot. Unfortunately, some major design oversights prevent this game from truly feeling like an epic.

The SWAT series has reemerged on the PC in the past year or so as one of the industry's top tactical shooters. It's not surprising then that VU Games has decided to extend the franchise onto mobile phones, in the form of SWAT Force. The experience has been translated into a 2D side-scroller, but the team-based tactical theme holds up surprisingly well on the small screen, making for a fun experience that looks as great as it plays.


Knowing when to use your artilleryman or your expert is central to the SWAT Force experience

In SWAT Force, you'll control a two-man SWAT team, consisting of an artilleryman and an expert. Each team member has unique skills, but you'll control only one at a time as you make your way through the game's campaign. The team member you don't control follows right behind you, and switching between them is as simple as pressing the 1 key. The game does a good job of forcing you to switch between the two team members to take advantage of their skills, while never putting you in situations where the need to swap feels overly stressful or cumbersome.

The Day After Tomorrow is Indiagames' mobile phone game take on the movie of the same name. In the movie, Dennis Quaid has to try to get to his son, who's trapped in New York when the environment goes haywire, causing an instant ice age along with a ton of other disasters. In game form, The Day After Tomorrow presents you with the challenge of making it through several disaster-themed levels, but the game's a little low on action and variety.


You'll face a twister, a blizzard, and a bunch of flying debris in this movie-themed game from Indiagames.

The game is a side-scroller, though unlike most action games, you aren't really facing any enemies in The Day After Tomorrow. Outside of occasionally getting attacked by a bear in one or two of the game's six levels, the game is basically an obstacle course that only has a few different obstacles in it. You'll have to jump over holes in the ground, duck under flying debris, push hot dog carts over dangerous terrain, and seek shelter when the conditions become too hostile. Various items, like chocolate bars and health packs, help keep you alive, as every little bump you take knocks off some of your health.

True Crime, the multiconsole action game featuring good cop/bad cop Nick Kang, has made its way to the mobile arena. Although it attempts to piggyback the popularity of the console series, the only true crime here is that this game costs money.

The game's story mimics the console version very closely. The main players, such as your partner Rosie, as well as Jimmy Fu and Big Chong are present, at least in name only, while you proceed from one objective to the next with absolute rigidity. Although True Crime, the former, prided itself on the variety of the available game elements, this version is much more tightly focused. Unfortunately, it's not as clearly focused, since the few things it does aren't done very well. The two main aspects of the game are completing objectives either in a car or on foot, all in the same city streets environment, so it usually boils down to getting Nick Kang to a certain location safely or making sure someone does not leave a certain location in one piece. All of the objectives proceed in order, with none of the console version's freedom of exploration.

The fine folks at Gameloft are indomitably can-do when it comes to porting console titles to mobile, and they've done their usual stellar job with Ubisoft's cel-shaded smash hit. Thanks to Gameloft's porting chops, XIII has made the transition from first-person shooter to mobile side-scroller with little degradation in entertainment value.
